Mice in House in Autumn? Why It Happens

As temperatures drop, mice look for warm, dry places with easy access to food. Homes, sheds, garages and commercial premises all provide shelter through autumn and winter.

Mice can squeeze through very small gaps. Openings around pipework, damaged air bricks, gaps under doors and holes in brickwork can all become entry points.

Look for small dark droppings, scratching noises in walls or ceilings, gnawed packaging, damaged insulation and a stale smell in enclosed areas. Mice often travel along edges, behind kitchen units and through loft spaces.

Seeing one mouse can mean more are nearby. Mice breed quickly, so early treatment usually makes the problem easier to control.

Store food in sealed containers, clean up crumbs, avoid leaving pet food out overnight and check outside walls for obvious gaps. Keep vegetation and stored items away from external walls where possible.
